Choose the neighborhood around the places you will return to each day, then compare the full cost of the stay. Start with central Seoul for a palace-and-shopping itinerary, Hongdae for Hongdae evenings, or Samseong for repeated COEX visits. In Busan, compare Nampo for old-town markets, Seomyeon for a mixed itinerary, and the beach you actually want to spend time at.
Use this guide in three steps: pick a Seoul area or pick a Busan area, check the arrival journey, then compare two hotel quotes. These are our planning judgments based on the locations and official sources below, not hotel inspections or a ranking of room quality.
Seoul: choose the part of the city you will use

Two properties illustrate why an address is more useful than an area label. Holiday Inn Express Seoul Hongdae lists 188 Yanghwa-ro, while GLAD Gangnam COEX Center lists 610 Teheran-ro and Samseong Station, Line 2, Exit 1. Put the precise property into a map before comparing the last walk. These are location examples, not recommendations based on a stay.

Busan: Nampo, Seomyeon, Gwangalli or Haeundae?
If markets and old-town evenings are the reason for your trip, start with Nampo or Jagalchi. If beach time is the priority, start with that beach. Choose Seomyeon as a candidate when your itinerary is spread across different parts of the city. It gives you access to both Metro Lines 1 and 2, but the hotel still needs a practical walk to the station.

The geographic basis is Visit Busan’s Nampo route, its Gwangalli Beach directions, and Busan City’s transit directions, which identify the Line 1/Line 2 interchange at Seomyeon. Our area choices are an interpretation of your likely itinerary, not a measured “fastest hotel” ranking.
Test the choice against your own days
Write down the first and last stop for each day. Then compare the routes from two candidate hotels at the times you expect to travel.
- A market-focused trip: if two evenings end around Nampo, start by comparing Nampo and Jagalchi properties. Use the Nampo shopping walk to see which markets you actually want to visit.
- A mixed city-and-beach trip: compare Seomyeon with your preferred beach area. Count the journeys you will repeat, not just the distance from your arrival station.
- A beach-focused trip with one market outing: compare hotels near the chosen beach first, then treat the Nampo outing as a separate journey. A single cross-city outing need not determine every night of your stay.
These are hypothetical trip patterns. For a short stay, also compare one base with moving hotels: repacking, storing bags, traveling and waiting for check-in can use time you meant to spend sightseeing. Split a stay only when the benefit fits your actual plans.
Check the arrival and departure before paying
For each candidate, save this chain: arrival terminal → train or bus → transfer → station exit → hotel entrance. Repeat it for your departure time. Include elevator access and the last outdoor walk if you have luggage or a stroller.

Compare the whole-stay cost
Get quotes for the same dates, guests and ages, room count, bed setup and cancellation conditions. Use one currency. For the calculator, convert both quotes to KRW on the same basis and include any applicable payment conversion fee in your own comparison.
Divide the room total for the entire stay by the number of nights to get the nightly average for all your rooms. Add only extras you would actually pay and that are not already included: airport transport, city travel, breakfast, parking or required fees. A refundable deposit is different from a cost, although it can affect the money available during the trip.
Example using invented prices: Hotel A costs ₩120,000 a night for three nights plus ₩20,000 in extras: ₩380,000. Hotel B costs ₩110,000 a night plus ₩60,000 in extras: ₩390,000. The cheaper nightly quote costs ₩10,000 more for the trip. This is arithmetic to illustrate the method, not a current room-price claim.
Keep travel time beside the money total. A lower-cost stay with more transfers may still suit you; the calculator cannot decide how much a quiet room, an easier walk or a flexible cancellation policy is worth to your group.
Check the room, not only the hotel name
Before making a nonrefundable booking, confirm the details that could rule the room out:
- Families or groups: guest ages, permitted occupancy, number and size of beds, and whether breakfast covers everyone.
- Luggage or mobility needs: an elevator, a usable entrance and the actual route from the station. Ask about the specific room and route instead of relying on a general accessibility icon.
- A hanok or guesthouse: private versus shared bathroom, bed versus floor bedding, heating or cooling, and check-in arrangements.
- A rental car: the property’s parking location, availability and total parking charge for the stay.
- An uncertain itinerary: the cancellation deadline in local time, required prepayment and the amount at risk if your plans change.
Save the final rate conditions and the property’s answer. A property photo or a headline price may describe a different room or rate.
