If Baemin asks for a Korean resident ID during sign-up, check the guest ordering route. Its operator says visitors can order without joining, using SMS verification to an overseas phone number. You may not need to buy a Korean SIM just for dinner—but you still need to receive that text. Woowa Brothers’ August 5, 2026 announcement explains the distinction.
Official information checked October 24, 2026. This guide covers restaurant food delivery; app screens and available options can change.
Find the step that is blocking your order
Before reinstalling apps or trying another card, identify which question the screen is asking.
| Where you are stuck | What to check next |
|---|---|
| Sign-up requests a resident registration number | Look for the non-member ordering route; do not try to complete resident membership with details you do not have. |
| An SMS code never arrives | Check the selected country code and whether that phone line receives texts in Korea. |
| The foreign card option is missing or payment fails | Check the order’s payment choices and the issuer’s authentication prompt. Save any error before retrying. |
| Your hotel cannot be found | Check its Korean road-name address and branch, then the map position. |
| Payment appears in your banking app, but the order is unclear | Check the order status and contact support before placing a second order. |
These are troubleshooting decisions, not a promise that every foreign number, card or app version will work.
Guest ordering and resident membership are different routes
Woowa describes membership using a Korean phone number and a foreign registration number, and a separate option to order after an overseas-number text check without joining. That makes guest ordering the useful route to check for a short visit.
Start from the food-ordering journey and look for a guest or non-member choice when asked to continue. The Korean term 비회원 주문 means “non-member order.” Exact button placement varies; the operator announcement confirms the route, not a universal sequence of screenshots.
For the interface, Woowa says English, Chinese and Japanese can be selected through the phone’s operating-system settings. Check the language setting for Baemin on your device. Translated customer screens do not mean the restaurant or rider will speak your language.
A data connection is not an SMS number
A data-only travel eSIM supplies internet access, not its own number for receiving ordinary SMS. If your home line remains available, check with your carrier how it receives texts while abroad and what charges or settings apply. Do not assume hotel Wi-Fi alone solves the verification step.
Example: a traveler has working maps through a data eSIM but has turned off the home SIM. Internet access is working; the phone line expected to receive the code is not available. Check that line before changing delivery apps.
Our Korea SIM and eSIM guide helps separate data, phone-number and pickup needs. A new SIM should solve an identified need; having an extra number is not a guarantee of passing every app’s identity check.
Choose payment at checkout, then check the order itself
Baemin’s visitor FAQ lists foreign credit cards, WeChat Pay and Alipay+. Its payment announcement confirms overseas credit-card payment in Korean won for non-members, and identifies Global Payments as the choice for WeChat Pay and Alipay+.
Choose the method actually offered for your order. If it fails:
- Read the error and check for a card-issuer authentication request.
- Check whether the order already exists before submitting again.
- If the status is unclear, save the time, amount and order reference and ask support. Do not send a full card number or security code in a chat.
- Use another offered method or a fallback once you know you will not duplicate the order.
A banking notification answers a payment question. The app’s order status answers whether there is a meal to collect. Keep both until the delivery is resolved.
Put the hotel entrance into the plan
Get the correct hotel’s Korean address, including the branch. Our Naver Map address guide helps with similar names and English-search failures.
Ask the property whether outside food is allowed and where you should meet the courier. Then check that the delivery address and map position match that place. A room number alone does not tell a rider which entrance to use.
Useful lines to show or adapt:
| Korean | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 배달 음식은 어디에서 받으면 될까요? | Where should I collect a food delivery? |
| 정문 앞에서 직접 받을게요. | I will collect it myself in front of the main entrance. |
Use the second line only after arranging that meeting point. Keep the phone nearby and be ready to collect the meal; do not assume reception will receive, store or bring it upstairs.
Baemin’s FAQ says the checkout shows the estimate and fees, with tracking detail limited for some delivery types. An estimated arrival helps you plan the handoff; it is not a fixed appointment.
When to try Shuttle or walk out for takeaway
Shuttle is a fallback to check at your exact address. The Korea Tourism Organization’s Shuttle guide describes overseas-card payment, registration without a Korean number and English support, while warning that service areas are limited.
Its current signup page specifically says phone verification is required to use Shuttle credit. That is a reason to separate a credit or promotion problem from a basic order problem. It is not proof that any particular foreign number will register successfully.
If you get stuck, Shuttle’s own first-timer guide points to Live Chat and recommends providing the order number or an error screenshot. Check coverage and the current basket before relying on it for dinner.
Compare the total you will pay for the food you actually want, including fees. Do not add unwanted food solely to reach a discount threshold: in a hypothetical basket, an extra ₩4,000 item that unlocks ₩3,000 off leaves you spending ₩1,000 more, if everything else stays the same. Those amounts illustrate the calculation; they are not a current offer.
If neither app produces a clear, workable order, nearby takeaway or a convenience-store meal can be the simpler dinner. Walking to a restaurant and ordering there avoids the delivery app’s registration and payment process; app-based pickup can still require checkout.
Resolve the ID, SMS, payment and meeting-point questions separately. That gives you a useful next step instead of repeatedly starting the same failed order.
