Leaving Korea by ferry from Busan? Ask about your shopping tax-refund form before passing immigration. Global Blue’s official Korea map places both a customs-stamp symbol and a tax-refund mailbox on the landside of Busan Port’s third floor. Do not assume your next step is an airport-style cash counter after passport control: the right procedure depends on the refund operator printed on your form.

Official sources checked October 31, 2026. This guide covers shopping purchases taken out of Korea through the international passenger terminal. It is not an on-site walkthrough or a guarantee of a staffed counter at your sailing time.

First, identify which refund you have

Read the receipt before leaving your hotel. These situations need different actions:

What happened at the shopWhat to check before boarding
Tax was deducted immediately at checkoutCheck the final receipt; do not apply for the same tax again
You paid the full price and received a refund voucherIdentify its operator and arrange customs export confirmation, then the operator’s refund submission
A downtown refund service already paid youCheck the remaining departure requirements; an advance refund can still need export confirmation
You have only an ordinary payment receiptAsk the store whether it issued a separate refund document; do not assume a card receipt is enough

The Korea Tourism Organization’s refund guide distinguishes immediate deductions, later claims and downtown refunds. Its general shopping requirements include participating purchases of at least ₩15,000 and taking eligible goods out of Korea within three months. Check the full eligibility rules in our Korea tax-refund guide, particularly if you live or work in Korea.

What the Busan Port map actually tells you

In the linked PDF, find Busan Port / 釜山港口, not Gimhae Airport. The gray area means landside; the stamp and envelope symbols sit there beside the immigration boundary.

This is the September 2025 map, checked on the date above. It does not establish staffed hours or every operator’s process. Save it to your phone, then show staff your voucher before crossing immigration. Follow current signs and staff directions if the arrangement has changed.

Customs confirmation and receiving money are separate

For export confirmation, Korea Customs Service lists a passport, sales documentation and the purchased goods, unopened and unused. Keep those goods accessible until customs tells you the required check is complete.

If a ferry operator will take a bag out of your reach, explain that it contains refund purchases before handing it over. Ask staff how to complete any inspection first. Do not copy an airport baggage-belt procedure into a ferry trip: baggage handling depends on your sailing.

After export confirmation, follow the refund provider’s instructions for sending the form and receiving payment. KTO describes a mailbox method and says the purchaser’s details and refund method must be completed on the voucher. Putting a form in a box is not a substitute for the required customs confirmation.

Will you receive cash at the port?

Do not budget around an unconfirmed cash payout before boarding. Global Blue’s map shows a mailbox. Separately, KICC Easy Tax Refund’s location page lists a Busan Port cash-refund option, but that entry does not give staffed hours. A listing for one provider does not confirm that your voucher can be paid in cash at your departure time.

Before the travel day, use the contact details on your form to confirm:

  • Does this operator handle my voucher at Busan Port International Passenger Terminal?
  • Where do I get export confirmation, and where do I submit the form?
  • Is payment available there at my sailing time, or will it arrive later by another method?
  • Which form fields and original documents must I submit?

Keep enough spending money for the rest of the journey independently of the refund. Do not treat the amount printed on a voucher as money already received.

A departure folder that is easy to check

Before packing after a Nampo-dong shopping trip, sort documents by operator and match each voucher to its receipt and purchase. Put any already-refunded receipts in a separate section so you can explain them clearly.

Keep copies of your completed documents and the provider’s reference number before surrendering originals. Use those records for follow-up through the provider’s official channel; avoid posting passport, payment or voucher details publicly.

At the terminal, these questions make the two steps clear:

Ask staffKorean phrase
Where can I get customs confirmation for this tax refund?이 택스리펀 전표의 세관 확인은 어디에서 받나요?
Where should I submit this confirmed form?세관 확인을 받은 이 전표는 어디에 제출하나요?
Do I receive the refund here, or later?환급금은 여기서 받나요, 아니면 나중에 받나요?

If you cannot find the relevant service, ask terminal staff before continuing toward your gate. If you have already departed with an unresolved claim, contact the operator on the voucher and explain which steps you completed. A later payment cannot be promised, and missing export confirmation may not be fixable after leaving.

For the shopping part of the trip, our Korean shopping phrases help with requesting the right receipt, while paying in won or dollars explains a separate checkout decision. A tax refund does not remove an unfavorable card-currency conversion.
