From Busan railway station, use exit 10 and the port pedestrian deck to reach the International Passenger Terminal. Busan Port Authority estimates 10–15 minutes; from Busan metro station exit 6, it gives about 20 minutes via the railway station. With luggage, add time for getting off your train and finding the ferry counter. Plan backward from check-in closing, not the later boarding or sailing time.
Official sources checked November 2, 2026. Times at the Korean terminal are Korea Standard Time (KST). This is a guide to the published route, with planning advice; it is not an on-site accessibility inspection.
Start at the right Busan Station
The railway station and metro station share a name, but their exit numbers are not interchangeable. Busan Port Authority’s directions distinguish these starting points:
| You arrive by | Starting point for the port route |
|---|---|
| KTX or another train into the railway station | Railway-station exit 10, 부산역사 10번 출입구 |
| Busan metro | Metro exit 6, then the railway station’s exit 10 |
From the railway exit, the authority lists the moving walkway → port pedestrian deck → international terminal. Save its directions before traveling. At the station, ask staff for the port route if construction, a closure or the signs make the next step unclear.
The quoted walking time is not a platform-to-check-in guarantee. Collecting suitcases, leaving the platform, taking a restroom break and locating the correct carrier all need their own allowance. If you are still choosing your train from Seoul, check Seoul Station versus Yongsan for KTX before booking the departure station.
Should you walk with your bags?
Choose for the whole party’s ability to move the bags, rather than the distance alone. These are practical decision rules, not measured transfer times:
| Your situation | A reasonable choice |
|---|---|
| You can comfortably roll or carry everything and have time to spare | Follow the pedestrian route, allowing for a slower pace with luggage |
| You have several awkward bags, a tired child or rain-sensitive luggage | Consider a taxi after checking vehicle space and the pickup point |
| You need a reliably step-free route or assistance | Confirm the current route and assistance with station or terminal staff before committing to the walk |
| You are considering a bus to save carrying | Check the actual next arrival, boarding stop and destination before leaving the station |
The published directions do not establish that every lift or moving walkway is working, or that the entire walk is sheltered. A trolley bag is not a reason to assume an uninterrupted step-free transfer. Keep a way to contact your carrier if your arrival plan changes.
For the train leg, read our KTX luggage guide. A bag that you can take on a train still needs to be manageable during this final transfer; ferry baggage rules are separate.
Bus or taxi instead
The port’s directions list city bus 1004 via Busan Station to the international terminal. Confirm the terminal-bound stop and live arrival before relying on it. Waiting for a bus can erase the advantage of a short ride, and a bus is not automatically easier with bulky bags. Do not build a tight connection around an unconfirmed shuttle timetable.
For a taxi or map search, use the full destination from the same official page:
Busan Port International Passenger Terminal
부산항국제여객터미널
206 Chungjang-daero, Dong-gu, Busan
부산광역시 동구 충장대로 206
Compare that destination with your booking. Avoid selecting a different passenger or cruise terminal because its English map label looks similar. Ask for the fare estimate and suitable vehicle before accepting a ride; this guide does not assume a fixed taxi fare or journey time.
The deadline that determines your train
Find three things on the carrier’s instructions: check-in hours, any baggage handover deadline, and boarding time. Use the earliest requirement that applies to you. A departure time printed prominently on a ticket may be too late to use as your arrival target.
For example, Camellia Line’s published schedule lists 16:30–18:30 check-in for Busan → Hakata, with boarding complete at 20:00. Its official FAQ explicitly says to finish the Busan check-in procedure by 18:30 and places the counter on the terminal’s third floor.
That is a New Camellia example, not a common deadline for every Busan ferry. Check your own sailing date, latest carrier notice and booking instructions. If the booking seller asks for an earlier meeting, or you have a vehicle or special baggage, resolve that requirement before selecting a train. Do not substitute the Hakata departure instructions for the Busan ones.
Work backward: a sample arrival plan
Suppose your confirmed check-in cutoff is 18:30, and you choose to be at the counter one hour earlier, at 17:30. For this example, reserve 45 minutes between the train’s arrival and reaching that counter:
| Planning allowance | Minutes |
|---|---|
| Get off the train and reach the railway-station exit | 15 |
| Walk to the terminal | 15 |
| Find the counter and handle an ordinary delay inside | 15 |
| Total allowance | 45 |
17:30 counter target − 45 minutes = 16:45 train-arrival target. These allowances are illustrative choices, not measured queue times or a promise that a 16:45 train will make your ferry. Choose an earlier arrival if you walk slowly, need assistance, expect extra baggage procedures, want a meal or have a long train journey that could be delayed. Increase the walking allowance when starting from the metro.
If a candidate train leaves no room for disruption, change the train or travel plan before booking. Do not assume a taxi will recover a missed check-in deadline. If your train is delayed on the day, contact the carrier promptly using the details in your confirmation.
Before you continue toward immigration
Have your passport and booking confirmation accessible, and confirm where your carrier wants you to take your bags. If you bought eligible shopping goods and still need a tax refund, check the Busan Port tax-refund steps before passing immigration or handing over the goods. Add time for that errand separately from the sample transfer above.
For a final Nampo-dong shopping stop, set your departure from the shops using the carrier deadline first. Leave the port transfer and check-in margin intact rather than spending them as extra shopping time.
