Changdeokgung Secret Garden tickets showing sold out online do not mean every place has been sold. The Royal Palaces and Tombs Center’s FAQ lists 50 online places and 50 same-day, on-site places per session, with the ticket office selling the latter from 9 a.m. That is a second opportunity, not a guarantee that tickets will remain when you arrive.
Official booking information checked October 22, 2026. This guide concerns ordinary Secret Garden admission, also called Huwon, rather than a special evening event.
Choose your next step
| Your situation | A useful next move |
|---|---|
| Your date has not opened | Set a reminder for the Korean release time below. |
| A suitable online session is available | Check the language, complete payment and confirm the booking. |
| Online sessions are sold out | Decide whether a same-day ticket-office attempt fits your schedule. |
| You already booked the garden | Check palace admission and how to present your valid ticket. |
Decide how important the garden is before rearranging the day. A traveler with a free afternoon can accept a later session more easily than someone leaving Seoul at lunchtime. An uncertain queue should not silently become the anchor of a tightly timed itinerary.
Set the alarm for Korea’s date, not yours
The official reservation overview opens online sales at 10 a.m., six days before the visit, excluding the visit day. Advance sales run through the preceding day. Use Korean time when subtracting those six days.
These are calendar calculations, not availability forecasts:
| Example visit | Release in Seoul | Same instant in New York |
|---|---|---|
| October 30, 2026 | October 24, 10 a.m. | October 23, 9 p.m. EDT |
| November 10, 2026 | November 4, 10 a.m. | November 3, 8 p.m. EST |
The U.S. clock change affects the second example. Set the event in Asia/Seoul in your calendar and let it convert to your own time zone. Do not reuse the New York hour if you are elsewhere in the United States.
Use the official English booking route
Open the official English ticket website. Its published instructions use an email-based member account and credit-card payment. If you land on a domestic registration screen, check the language and return to this English entry point.
Select the garden session and its language, then complete payment within the displayed deadline. Confirm a paid booking in your account; selecting a date is not a completed purchase.
For entry, the site distinguishes the valid mobile ticket or an issued paper ticket from a printed confirmation; it also says a screenshot ticket is not valid. Make sure you can reopen the actual ticket on your phone, or arrange paper issuance as instructed.
If online tickets are gone, plan the on-site attempt
The official FAQ caps each session at 100 people, divided between advance and on-site sales. The separate allocation explains why an online sellout can coexist with a same-day option.
Our planning recommendation: arrive before the published 9 a.m. sales start if you choose this route, with more than one acceptable session in mind. There is no arrival time that guarantees success. Ask what remains before paying for a different ticket on the assumption it includes the garden.
Hypothetical choice: suppose the only remaining garden session is 2 p.m., but you must leave the area at 1 p.m. Buying it would not solve your problem. Switch to a palace-buildings visit or another activity instead of paying for a session you cannot attend.
Choose that fallback in advance. Our palace comparison helps pick a different visit; our museum guide gives indoor alternatives. Recheck the chosen venue’s opening day before redirecting your route. For a different kind of stop, compare a tea or craft experience by its actual session time and language.
A garden ticket still needs palace access
The reservation overview requires palace-building admission alongside the garden booking. It identifies exceptions for visitors with the relevant free or discounted admission entitlement or an integrated palace pass, who should bring the required proof. Ordinary palace tickets are also sold on site without the garden’s visitor cap.
Do not confuse the two admission decisions: securing the garden session does not erase the palace-access requirement, and buying ordinary admission does not secure a garden session. For fee comparisons and what the integrated pass covers, use the palace-ticket guide.
Leave time between the palace gate and the garden
The ticket website tells visitors to allow 15 minutes from the main gate to the Secret Garden and warns that late arrival means no entry or refund. Add your own buffer for ticket-office queues and finding the entrance; that walk is not your whole arrival allowance.
Before leaving your hotel, check the date, session language, paid status, palace access and ticket display. Put the garden entrance time in your itinerary separately from your arrival at the palace. That small distinction matters more than squeezing in one extra stop beforehand.
