Returning from Gangneung on November 16, 23 or 30, 2026? KTX-Eum trains 826 and 828 will end at Cheongnyangni instead of continuing to Seoul Station. Train 828 arrives at 00:05 the following day. Before booking a late return, plan the remaining journey from Cheongnyangni to your hotel—or look for an earlier train that actually serves your required station.

This is a change on three specific Mondays, not a month-long closure or a suspension of every Gangneung train. KORAIL’s October 21 notice, checked October 23, 2026, attributes the adjustment to bridge improvement work near Namyeong Station. All times below are Korea local time.

Which late trains change their destination?

These are the two Gangneung departures in the notice. The departure times stay the same; the western end of each journey is shortened.

TrainLeaves GangneungRevised arrival
82621:33Cheongnyangni 23:04, same evening
82822:27Cheongnyangni 00:05, next day

On these dates, 826 does not run on the Cheongnyangni–Haengsin section, including the onward journey through Seoul Station. For 828, the Cheongnyangni–Seoul Station section does not operate.

For comparison, KORAIL’s notice lists the previous final arrivals as Haengsin 23:48 for 826 and Seoul Station 00:25 for 828. Haengsin is not another name for Seoul Station. The shorter journey does not mean you reach your original destination earlier: you get off at a different station.

The same notice also changes train 848 from Donghae, departing 21:32 and ending at Cheongnyangni 23:49 instead of Seoul Station at 00:12. That is a separate Donghae-origin service, not a third departure from Gangneung Station.

Use the train number and departure date together. Do not apply this table to other dates or assume it lists every train available that evening. Check the final itinerary on the official KORAIL booking site.

The midnight detail: which date will you arrive?

For train 828, the affected date is the date you leave Gangneung. The arrival occurs five minutes into the following day:

Depart Gangneung at 22:27Arrive at Cheongnyangni at 00:05
Monday, November 16Tuesday, November 17
Monday, November 23Tuesday, November 24
Monday, November 30Tuesday, December 1

If a driver is meeting you, give them the arrival date, arrival time and Cheongnyangni Station. For a new hotel booking after the November 16 departure, explain that you will arrive after midnight on November 17 and need access to a room for the night of November 16. Confirm the property’s late check-in arrangement before paying; do not assume a November 17 booking gives access at 00:05 that morning.

Cheongnyangni is in Seoul—but it is not Seoul Station

Cheongnyangni Station (청량리역) is in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul. The Korea Tourism Organization’s station guide lists its address as 214 Wangsan-ro. Your intercity train still reaches Seoul city, but a hotel pickup or onward journey arranged for Seoul Station (서울역) needs to be checked against this different arrival point.

An arrival at 23:04 or 00:05 is not proof that a usable subway connection is available. Check your exact destination, travel date and final connection, allowing time to get off the KTX and reach the next platform. If that does not work, check a taxi option and the complete fare estimate. Our Seoul taxi night-fare guide explains why the hour of travel matters and why the starting fare is not the total trip price.

Choose the return around what you need after the train

Your priorityWhat to compare before booking
Arrive at Seoul Station or continue to HaengsinAn earlier service that actually lists that destination on your date. Do not reserve 826 or 828 expecting to stay aboard beyond Cheongnyangni.
Keep a late evening in GangneungThe revised train plus a workable Cheongnyangni-to-hotel journey. Compare the complete journey’s time and cost, not just the rail ticket.
Travel with luggage, children or a fixed onward connectionAn earlier return with a confirmed seat and enough transfer time. A later train is only useful if the remaining journey is practical for your group.

The two Gangneung services illustrate the trade-off: 828 leaves 54 minutes later than 826 but arrives at Cheongnyangni 61 minutes later, crossing midnight. Those extra minutes are worth assessing against your hotel access and local transport, rather than choosing the latest departure automatically. This comparison does not establish seat availability or the fastest door-to-door option.

Before you pay—or change an existing booking

  1. Open KORAIL’s official booking site and enter the actual departure date from Gangneung.
  2. If considering an affected late train, check Cheongnyangni as the arrival station. If you need Seoul Station, compare departures that actually serve it.
  3. Read the train number, final station and arrival date in the selected itinerary. A general timetable or saved search is not your issued ticket.
  4. Check the journey from the arrival station to your accommodation, including a late check-in or pickup arrangement where needed.
  5. If you already have a booking, review it through your original seller and ask how this service change affects it before cancelling or buying a replacement. The notice itself does not promise a replacement bus, free taxi or a particular refund arrangement.

KORAIL lists 1588-7788 for questions about this notice. Recheck the service-change notice and your ticket before travel, because later operational updates may change the plan.

For other rail decisions, see our KTX booking-window guide and guide to seat-and-standing tickets when KTX is sold out. A KORAIL Pass also requires its own seat-reservation process; the pass does not remove this change of arrival station.
