In Incheon Airport’s public area, you can change between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 by free shuttle bus or by AREX All-Stop train for ₩1,200 per adult using a transit card. The bus boards on 3F; AREX is at the B1 Transportation Center. If you are connecting between international flights inside the secure area, check the separate transfer route before heading for either one.

The airport’s inter-terminal overview still displays ₩1,050. This guide uses the rail operator’s current adult transit-card fare table, which lists ₩1,200 between the two airport stations. Official pages were checked October 23, 2026.

First, identify where you are

Use your flight confirmation and the airline’s current information to confirm the destination terminal. For a hotel, tour desk or pickup, check that facility’s exact terminal and whether it is in the public or secure area.

For accommodation, our Transit Hotel versus Darakhyu guide explains why a room in the right terminal may still be on the wrong side of security.

Free bus: match the direction and the door

The airport describes its inter-terminal shuttle bus as free in its terminal transport explainer. That article is dated October 2024; use the current route pages linked in the table for the service details below.

DirectionBus and public-area pickup
T1 → T2AIRPORT 04, T1 3F, outside door 8. Current route
T2 → T1AIRPORT 03, T2 3F, by door 7 in the central doors 6–7 area. Current route

These numbers identify terminal entrance doors, not aircraft boarding gates. At T1, the AIRPORT 03 stops by doors 3 and 12 serve the onward route toward the business and cargo areas. For T2, use the AIRPORT 04 pickup by door 8 instead.

The current route pages list:

  • AIRPORT 04: 10–20-minute intervals; route operating hours 04:30–23:20.
  • AIRPORT 03: 7–20-minute intervals; route operating hours 04:30–23:35.

Those are published service summaries, not a promise that a bus leaves your particular stop at the final listed minute. Near the beginning or end of service, check the stop timetable. Compare the displayed next departure before committing to the bus.

AREX: budget the ticket you will actually use

Follow Airport Railroad / AREX signs to the Transportation Center on B1, as shown in the airport’s rail location guide. Select the other airport terminal as your destination and use the All-Stop service. A Seoul-bound Express ticket is a different purchase; see our AREX service comparison if continuing into the city.

The operator’s fare table separates the fare from the refundable deposit:

One adult, one terminal-to-terminal tripAmount
Prepaid or postpaid transit card₩1,200 fare
Single-journey card₩1,300 fare plus ₩500 deposit
Cash needed for that single-journey purchase₩1,800, with the ₩500 deposit refundable at the destination station

Example for four adults: existing transit cards cost 4 × ₩1,200 = ₩4,800. Four single-journey cards require ₩7,200 upfront; after recovering all four deposits, the fares total ₩5,200. The free bus avoids those fares. This calculation excludes buying or funding a reusable card.

“Six minutes” is the ride, not the whole correction

The airport estimates six minutes for the rail segment between terminals. Add the walk to B1, ticket purchase if needed, the wait for a train and the walk from the arrival station to your check-in counter or meeting point.

Use this checklist on your phone:

  1. Deadline: what time must you reach the airline counter, tour desk or pickup point?
  2. Current position: are you already near B1, or near a 3F shuttle stop?
  3. Next service: what departure is actually available now?
  4. Arrival walk: where exactly must you go after leaving the train or bus?

Choose from the complete journey. A short train ride alone cannot establish that you will meet an airline’s check-in or boarding deadline. If time is tight, contact airline staff while confirming the route.

Connecting flights use a different shuttle train

The secure-area IAT shuttle train is separate from AREX. Korean Air’s international transfer guide requires an onward boarding pass or e-ticket itinerary to access the transfer area or IAT. Check with your airline if you need a boarding pass issued or must collect and recheck baggage.

For T2 → T1, the airport’s official transfer instructions show the route through the Concourse, a second shuttle train, and transfer security at T1. They also warn that you cannot return after boarding. Follow the signs for your onward terminal and gate; ask staff before using the train for an optional visit to another terminal.

Changing airports for a Jeju flight is a separate journey: use the Incheon-to-Gimpo transfer guide.

A question to show staff

For the free bus to Terminal 2:

제2여객터미널로 가는 무료 셔틀버스 타는 곳이 어디인가요?

“Where do I board the free shuttle bus to Terminal 2?”

For Terminal 1, change 제2여객터미널 to 제1여객터미널. Show your booking or boarding pass as well, so staff can check the terminal and whether you need the public-area or connecting-flight route.
