Landing at Incheon (ICN) and flying to Jeju from Gimpo (GMP) means changing airports with your luggage. Korean Air’s ICN–GMP transfer instructions tell passengers to collect checked bags after arrival, travel to the other airport and check them in again. An onward boarding pass does not remove that ground journey.
For the rail leg, use the AREX All-Stop Train, which serves Gimpo. The Express runs to Seoul Station without a Gimpo stop. Before buying the Jeju flight, work backward from the airline’s airport-arrival guidance and check-in deadline, then add your arrival procedures and the complete ground transfer.
Official information checked October 22, 2026. The example below is a planning calculation, not a measured journey or a guaranteed connection.
1. Read both airport codes before choosing a flight
Write down arrival airport, arrival terminal, departure airport and departure terminal from the actual itinerary. For a GMP–CJU flight, follow Gimpo’s Domestic Terminal signs; Gimpo also has an International Terminal. Check the airport’s flight information against your flight number.
Do not assume every Seoul–Jeju flight requires Gimpo. The Korea Tourism Organization reported the resumption of direct Incheon–Jeju flights in May 2026. That announcement does not establish availability on your date. Search the actual airports and date before committing to a cross-airport itinerary; confirm the current service and connection arrangements with the airline.
This guide covers an international arrival at ICN followed by a domestic departure from GMP. An itinerary using an Incheon transit-exclusive domestic flight has different procedures: follow your airline’s instructions for that exact flight.
2. Choose All-Stop for the airport-to-airport rail leg
The official AREX route and ticket guide includes Gimpo Airport on the All-Stop route. Express serves Seoul Station and the two Incheon airport terminals. An Express voucher or reserved seat will not give you a Gimpo stop.
After clearing arrivals, follow the Airport Railroad signs and check the All-Stop / 일반열차 entrance. Select Gimpo Airport / 김포공항 as the destination. AREX lists single-use transport cards at station vending machines and prepaid transit cards as fare options. Check the current departure and fare at the station; a train’s advertised airport-to-Seoul journey is a different route.
Keep the walking legs in your plan: reaching the Incheon station, waiting for the train, and getting from Gimpo Airport Station to the airline’s domestic check-in area. Our AREX guide explains the two train products and luggage handling. If using a taxi or airport bus instead, confirm the correct Gimpo terminal and allow for road conditions.
3. Plan for the bags at both airports
For this cross-airport route, plan to collect, carry and recheck your luggage. Ask the airline at the first check-in counter where your bags must be reclaimed, even if it issues an onward boarding pass.
Check the Jeju flight’s baggage allowance separately before paying. A suitcase allowed on the international flight is not proof of the allowance on a separately purchased domestic fare. Record the included weight or pieces, any prepaid excess-baggage option, and the bag-drop deadline shown for that ticket.
Carry-on-only travel removes baggage reclaim and bag drop when your airline allows it; it still leaves arrival procedures, the airport change, identification checks, security and boarding. Keep the documents you need accessible throughout the transfer.
4. Separate the arrival target from the check-in cutoff
Jeju Air’s official check-in guide, under Important Information for Passengers, recommends reaching the airport two hours before departure. It lists a 30-minute domestic check-in deadline; the domestic boarding guide says boarding closes 10 minutes before departure. These are different milestones. Arriving at the station 30 minutes before departure is not the same as completing airline check-in by that time.
Use your actual carrier’s guidance. Korean Air’s transfer table lists 170 minutes for its international T2-to-Gimpo-domestic connection category. That carrier’s published minimum is not a universal allowance for separately purchased flights or a guarantee against delay. Ask the booking airline which connection conditions apply to your itinerary.
Worked example: compare the same arrival with two departures
Suppose you land at 12:00. For illustration only, allocate 75 minutes to disembarking, arrival formalities and reaching the public arrivals area, then 60 minutes for the entire ground leg to Gimpo’s check-in area. Those two assumptions put you there at 14:15. They are not observed averages; replace them with a plan for your terminal, luggage and transport.
Using Jeju Air’s two-hour airport-arrival recommendation:
| Possible Jeju departure | What the example leaves you |
|---|---|
| 15:00 — three-hour flight gap | Airport-arrival target 13:00; the assumed 14:15 arrival is 75 minutes later |
| 17:00 — five-hour flight gap | Airport-arrival target 15:00; the assumed 14:15 arrival leaves 45 minutes before that target |
A 45-minute inbound delay consumes all that second option’s margin if everything else stays the same. The lesson is to calculate the whole sequence for your flights. Five hours is not a blanket guarantee, and reaching an airport before its final check-in cutoff is not the same as following its arrival recommendation.
5. Decide what happens if the first flight is late
Before paying, ask the airline or seller how a missed connection would be handled for these exact tickets. Check change fees, no-show rules and whether the booking includes any missed-connection assistance. Do not infer protection simply because two flights appear together in an itinerary.
Compare three practical plans: a later same-day departure, a flight the following day, or a confirmed service that avoids changing airports. If the late option leaves little time for your Jeju rental-car pickup, compare that total plan too. For a trip without a car, check the airport bus route and where to stay before fixing the first night’s schedule.
Save a short transfer note: ICN terminal → arrivals and bags → ground transport → GMP Domestic Terminal → airline check-in → security → gate. Fill in your carrier’s target and deadlines. That is the itinerary to assess before booking the next flight.
