Your backpack is part of Jeju Air’s 10kg cabin allowance. The airline permits one cabin suitcase and one smaller personal item, with 10kg combined, including duty-free purchases. A suitcase that weighs less than 10kg can still put your total over the limit once you add the other bag. Jeju Air’s official baggage rules are the reference.

Checked October 24, 2026. This guide covers ordinary luggage on Jeju Air, the airline. Do not apply its allowance to every carrier flying to Jeju Island. Mobility aids, infant equipment and special baggage have separate conditions.

Check the bag count, both sizes and the total weight

CheckJeju Air’s published limit
Ordinary cabin itemsOne suitcase plus one personal item
Suitcase dimensions40 × 20 × 55cm; total of the three sides no more than 115cm
Personal-item dimensions40 × 30 × 15cm
Combined weight10kg, not 10kg for each bag

Use the centimetre dimensions above when measuring. A shop’s “cabin size” label is not a measurement, and an expandable case needs checking in the configuration you will actually travel with. Pack first, close the bags, then measure and weigh them.

An 8.4kg suitcase can still be too much

These are hypothetical packing examples, not measured bags or airport tests.

Packed bagsCombined totalWeight decision
Suitcase 8.4kg + backpack 2.1kg10.5kg0.5kg over; reduce what you carry in the cabin or arrange suitable checked baggage.
Suitcase 6.5kg + backpack 2.8kg9.3kg0.7kg below the limit; still check dimensions, item count and contents.

Moving a charger from the first suitcase into its backpack does not change 10.5kg. Nor does moving clothes in the other direction. Add the two readings before deciding what to remove.

If your laptop bag weighs 4kg when fully packed, your remaining weight budget is 10 − 4 = 6kg. That includes the suitcase itself. Weighing an empty case before packing helps you decide whether cabin-only travel is practical for your actual equipment.

Treat return-flight shopping as part of that decision. Make a short list of what you intend to bring back, and allow some packing margin instead of planning to leave home exactly at the ceiling. A report that another traveler was not weighed cannot confirm what will happen on your flight.

Extra checked baggage does not buy a heavier cabin bag

Jeju Air’s pre-purchase baggage service is for luggage checked into the hold. It advertises purchase until 24 hours before departure and says prepaid baggage must be presented at the airport counter, not checked in at the boarding gate. Plan that counter stop even if you already have a mobile boarding pass.

For a hypothetical Sunday 14:00 departure, 24 hours earlier is Saturday 14:00. Check the departure airport’s local date and time, and make the decision before that point rather than relying on a last-minute purchase.

Before paying, compare the complete options for your flight:

  • Cabin-only: can your necessary items fit within all three checks above?
  • Your current fare plus a baggage purchase: what checked allowance is already included, and what is the final additional charge for this route?
  • Another fare or flight: does its total price include the checked weight you need, on both outward and return journeys?

Use the quote tied to your booking. A domestic baggage price cannot establish the charge for an international route. Buying a checked allowance also means allowing time to hand the bag over and collect it after arrival; count that in a tight connection.

If you decide to check a bag that previously held cabin items, remove power banks and spare batteries first. Jeju Air’s lithium-battery rules prohibit them in checked baggage; check that page for their separate capacity, quantity and protection requirements. Keep travel documents and anything you need during the journey accessible.

Check each flight in a Korea–Jeju itinerary

Write a separate line for each operating airline, cabin limit and checked allowance. Do this before moving items between bags for a domestic connection. A bag accepted on your long-haul flight has not automatically been cleared for a later Jeju Air segment.

The contents need a separate check too. Our Jeju domestic-flight liquid guide explains why a bottle allowed on a domestic leg can fail your later international security check. If your itinerary changes airports, use the Incheon-to-Gimpo transfer guide to include immigration, bag collection, the journey and airline check-in.

Before leaving for the airport: weigh both packed bags, check their dimensions, save the allowance attached to your booking, and decide whether anything needs checking in. The useful number is the total you will carry onto this flight.
