A foreign bank card is not a guaranteed way to start an EV charger in Jeju. LOTTE’s electric-car guide says charging operators have different payment requirements, including Korean payment methods or app membership. Before choosing an electric rental, get a usable charging plan for the specific car and booking: which card you receive, where it works and what you will pay.

Official pages checked October 25, 2026. LOTTE currently advertises a dated free-charging promotion for foreign customers at Jeju Auto House. That is useful booking information, but a general promise of free charging does not identify the exact charger you will use. The checklist below helps turn a rental quote into a practical plan.

Match your quote to a way of charging

Use this decision table before paying for the car. These are questions for your supplier, not a claim that every company offers all three arrangements.

What the quote tells youMissing answer to getBooking decision
A charging card is includedWhich operators and chargers accept it? What charges remain payable?Save a supported station near your first stop and a backup before choosing the EV.
Charging is charged separatelyIs the amount based on rental days, distance, electricity used or individual sessions?Add the stated charge to the car total before comparing quotes.
You must use your own payment methodCan your foreign-issued card or accessible guest payment actually start a session at the planned charger? If the supplier cannot give a workable route, compare a petrol or hybrid vehicle before committing.

Do not count a map pin as a complete plan. Your chosen station must fit the car, the payment method and the hours when you can reach it. A charger shown at a hotel also needs confirmation from that property: ask about guest access, any parking charge, who can use it and whether a space can be reserved.

What LOTTE currently publishes about free charging

The official promotion page displays April 28–December 31, 2026. Its conditions identify foreign customers renting an EV at LOTTE Jeju Auto House, with a charging card collected at pickup and returned with the vehicle.

The promotion image does not list supported charging networks, individual stations or connector types. Ask the branch to confirm the offer for your dates and chosen vehicle and provide the station instructions. Do not extend this Jeju promotion to a mainland pickup, another company or a 2027 rental without new confirmation. An older travel report can describe a different promotion period or rental arrangement.

Get these answers before leaving the pickup desk

Ask the staff to show you the steps on your actual vehicle and charging instructions. Keep their answer available offline in case mobile reception or an app causes trouble.

  1. Card and payment: Is the supplied card active? Does it include electricity, authorize charging with later billing, or require a separate payment?
  2. Station list: Which operator names or map filters should you use? Save one suitable station near your first overnight stop and a second option along the route.
  3. Connector: Which plug fits this vehicle? If an adapter is supplied, have staff identify the charger types it supports and demonstrate safe use.
  4. Session: How do you start, stop and release the connector? Ask for help if the latch or instructions are unclear rather than forcing it.
  5. Help and return: Which number handles a charging failure, and what battery level or extra charge applies at return? Save the contact separately from your booking email.

LOTTE’s EV pickup guidance specifically recommends checking the charging card, port and connector, and says return conditions vary by contract. A vehicle model name or a familiar bank-card logo cannot answer all of these questions.

Compare the whole trip cost

Use the same rental hours, passenger needs and insurance scope for each quote. Then write down:

Car and chosen coverage + charging-plan charge + charging outside that plan + any parking or return charge = the total to compare.

Leave an unconfirmed cost marked unknown until the supplier answers. Calling it zero would make the apparently cheaper quote misleading. If a plan bills by distance, multiply the quoted rate by your planned driving distance; if it bills by rental day, confirm how partial days are counted. Avoid adding a second electricity estimate for charging already included in the plan.

Also compare the practical cost: a supported charger on your route may be more useful than a lower car price that requires a detour. Use the Jeju driving-route guide to group stops before comparing your charging options. This is a planning comparison, not a claim that EVs or petrol cars are always cheaper.

A relaxed return rule is separate from charging during the trip

LOTTE Jeju Auto House says its EVs do not have to be returned fully charged. That statement concerns returning the vehicle. It does not tell you how to pay for a charging session during your stay, nor should it be copied into another operator’s contract.

Confirm the exact return condition at pickup and allow enough battery for the trip back to the lot. Return any issued charging card as instructed and keep the final receipt. For the original documents, damage coverage and shuttle planning that still apply to an EV, use the Jeju rental-car booking guide.

A message to send before booking

I am considering this EV for these pickup and return dates. Will my booking include an active charging card? Please confirm its charge, the supported operators or stations, the connector or adapter instructions, and the battery or fee requirement on return. If I need my own payment method, how can a visitor with a foreign-issued bank card start a charging session?

If those answers remain unclear, price a vehicle with a fueling arrangement you understand. If you would prefer not to drive, the car-free Jeju base comparison helps you choose accommodation around the journeys you expect to make.
