An unlimited Korea eSIM can still limit hotspot sharing to 1GB a day. Holafly’s South Korea product page advertises unlimited phone data but specifies 1GB of shareable data per day. If you want to connect a laptop or a travel partner’s phone, check that separate allowance before buying.
Official pages checked October 25, 2026. The 1GB figure applies to that Holafly destination product; it is not a limit on every Korea eSIM. This guide compares published conditions, rather than reporting a speed test.
Unlimited phone data and hotspot data are different questions
Hotspot, also called tethering, uses your phone’s connection to get another device online. Three details matter when comparing plans: whether sharing is allowed, how much can be shared, and what happens after that allowance is used.
| Korea product checked | What the official page confirms | What to check for your trip |
|---|---|---|
| Holafly South Korea eSIM | Unlimited phone data; 1GB/day of data sharing | Whether that daily sharing allowance fits all the devices you will connect |
| LG U+ tourist data eSIM, bought directly | Unlimited data without a stated speed cap; its FAQ permits tethering | The page does not give a separate numeric hotspot allowance. Ask about your intended volume before relying on it for substantial laptop use. |
LG U+’s product page and tethering FAQ confirm that hotspot use is supported. Permission to tether is not, by itself, a published promise of unlimited tethering. Keep the exact product name with any support confirmation: a reseller’s plan using the same network may have different conditions.
Before choosing either option, check your phone’s compatibility. Our Korea eSIM and airport SIM guide covers that step and the choice between digital and physical SIMs.
A 1GB sharing budget can cover several devices—and run out in total
Plan around the combined shared usage, rather than giving every connected device its own allowance. Here is a hypothetical daily budget, using 1GB = 1,000MB for simple arithmetic. These are invented totals, not measurements of particular apps or predictions for your trip.
| Shared use in this example | Assumed data |
|---|---|
| Partner’s phone | 150MB |
| Laptop work session | 650MB |
| Background file transfer on the laptop | 300MB |
| Combined shared use | 1,100MB |
The example is 100MB over a 1GB budget, even though neither device used 1GB on its own. Moving the 300MB transfer to a suitable separate connection would bring the example to 800MB, leaving 200MB of headroom. Actual usage and the provider’s accounting can differ.
Estimate your own needs from recent device usage and the files you expect to send. Do not translate a data allowance into a guaranteed number of video-call hours: call settings, file transfers and other traffic change the result.
Stop a laptop treating your phone like unrestricted hotel Wi-Fi
For Windows 11, Microsoft’s metered-connection instructions say to open Settings → Network & internet → Wi-Fi → the connected network, then enable Metered connection. This can reduce background usage and affect app syncing and updates; it does not guarantee that every app will stay within a particular allowance.
Before a work session, check cloud-sync queues and planned downloads. Save large transfers for a connection with enough capacity, and monitor usage during the session. For an essential call or upload, arrange a fallback connection before the deadline rather than assuming the word unlimited covers the laptop.
One shared plan or a connection for each traveler?
- Occasional sharing while together: a phone hotspot may fit. Compare your expected shared usage with the plan’s explicit allowance.
- Daily laptop work: choose a product whose sharing conditions cover your expected volume, and establish a second usable connection for essential work.
- Travelers who split up: arrange independent data if both people need to stay online away from one another. A larger allowance does not solve the separation problem.
- A group considering a rental router: check its own allowance and return arrangements. Our different-airport pocket Wi-Fi return guide covers the Busan-pickup, Incheon-return decision.
Save a screenshot of the product conditions when booking. A useful question for the provider is: “For this exact Korea plan, can I share data with a laptop and another phone, what is the combined sharing allowance, when does it reset, and what happens when I reach it?” Confirm any rollover separately; a daily allowance should not be treated as freely usable on any one day without that confirmation.
