Some Korean hotels let you adjust the room temperature while the building selects heating or cooling for the season. Mercure Seoul Magok’s official FAQ describes this arrangement. If you need a cool bedroom in fall or winter, confirm that cold-air cooling will be available on your actual stay dates before choosing a nonrefundable rate.
Official hotel information checked October 24, 2026. The examples below concern two specific properties. Ask your exact branch about your room category and dates; a chain name or an “air conditioning” amenity label leaves that question unresolved.
A thermostat and available cooling are separate checks
A useful hotel reply answers both questions:
- What can I control in my room? For example, the temperature setting, fan speed or operating mode.
- Will cooling mode be available during my stay? This matters even if the answer to the first question is yes.
Two operators explain why the distinction matters:
| Property | What its current official information establishes |
|---|---|
| Mercure Seoul Magok | A room controller adjusts temperature. The central system’s available mode can depend on the season, outdoor temperature and hotel operations; guests may be unable to switch freely between heating and cooling |
| LOTTE CITY HOTEL DAEJEON | Heating and cooling operate through seasonal central control. Guests can still adjust the temperature with the room’s wall controller |

Neither cited answer supplies a fixed annual switch date. These examples do not establish one nationwide schedule, or the arrangements at other hotels in either brand. A review from a summer stay also cannot settle what will be available for your November booking.
Read the reply before committing to the rate
Use this as a booking checklist, rather than treating every mention of AC as a complete answer.
| The hotel’s reply | Your next step |
|---|---|
| “The room has air conditioning” | Ask whether it can blow cold air during your exact dates |
| “You can control the temperature” | Ask whether you can select cooling when the building is using heating |
| “Heating or cooling depends on the season/weather” | Ask which mode is expected for your dates, when it will be decided, and what alternatives are available |
| “Cooling is available for that room type on those dates” | Save the dated reply and check whether any operating hours or temperature limits affect your needs |
If cooling is essential and the answer remains uncertain, keep it as an unresolved booking requirement. Compare another property or a rate whose cancellation deadline gives you time to confirm. Read the actual deadline and charge before paying; a “cool room requested” note is less specific than an answer about the system’s operating mode.
For example, imagine comparing two rooms for the same November dates. One property replies that guests can change the thermostat. The other confirms cold-air cooling for the requested room category throughout those dates. The second reply answers the cooling question more directly; you still need to compare the room price, location and cancellation terms. This is a hypothetical decision example, not a claim about two particular hotels.

English
I’m considering [room type] at [exact hotel/branch] for [check-in date] to [check-out date]. Will air conditioning that blows cold air be available in this room throughout those dates? Can I select cooling even if the building is in heating mode? Are there any operating hours or temperature limits? If cooling will not be available, what alternatives can you confirm for this booking?

If your plans change, ask about the new dates and room type. Keep the reply with the reservation so the front desk can see what was discussed.
If the room feels too warm after arrival
Check the room while the front desk has time to help, rather than waiting until bedtime. Explain what you have already tried and ask staff to identify the available mode.
“객실이 너무 더워요. 지금 냉방이 가능한가요, 아니면 난방이나 송풍만 가능한가요?”
“The room is too warm. Is cooling available now, or only heating or fan mode?”
Ask staff to check the controller and room condition. Depending on what the hotel can offer, discuss a fan, lighter bedding or another room. Confirm availability and any charge before agreeing to a change. If staff suggest opening a window, ask which opening is permitted; leave locks and restrictors as installed. A fan or a different room should be treated as a proposed solution to assess, not an automatic substitute for your cooling requirement.
If you booked through a third party and the hotel cannot resolve the issue, contact that booking channel about the options for your reservation. A room-temperature complaint alone does not establish an automatic refund; preserve the hotel’s reply and your rate conditions.
Finish the rest of the room check
Once cooling is settled, match the property to your daily route with the Seoul hotel-area comparison. Families should separately confirm room occupancy and children’s bedding. For a longer stay, check whether “laundry” means a guest washer or a staff-handled service.
A short, date-specific answer about cooling is more useful for this decision than a long amenities list. Get that answer while you can still choose the room and rate that suit you.
