At 18, a signed parental consent form may be only part of your hotel check-in paperwork. Toyoko Inn Korea’s published checklist also requires a guardian’s ID copy and proof of relationship. Sotetsu Fresa Inn Seoul Myeong-dong has its own documents and rules for who shares the room. Check your exact party before paying for a restrictive booking. Sources: Toyoko Inn’s Korea guidance and Sotetsu Myeong-dong’s consent document.
Official information checked October 24, 2026 (US Central time). These are two operator examples, not a rule for every Korean hotel. Use your age on the stay dates and the policy of the exact property you want to book.
Compare the paperwork before comparing room prices
The following applies to a minor staying without a parent or guardian, subject to the hotel’s guest-combination rules. Both operators’ linked documents include 18-year-olds in their under-19 requirements.
| Hotel example | Documents to resolve before arrival |
|---|---|
| Toyoko Inn hotels in Korea | Original minor-accommodation consent form, guardian-ID copy and relationship proof. The linked form specifies a family-relationship certificate copy |
| Sotetsu Fresa Inn Seoul Myeong-dong | Consent form and guardian-ID copy for permitted solo or same-sex stays; its sibling category additionally requires a family-relationship certificate |
Toyoko’s currently linked English form also asks for copies of the consent and guardian ID in advance by fax or mail, the original consent at check-in, and telephone confirmation with the guardian. Check how your branch wants to receive these. Its Korea guidance says missing documents can prevent accommodation.
Sotetsu’s property FAQ asks guests to present the consent at check-in. Use the branch’s own form and read its conditions before signing.
For a visitor from overseas, the unresolved detail may be the relationship document. Ask which document from your country the hotel accepts and whether it needs a translation. Do not assume that a birth certificate, an English translation or a phone photograph automatically satisfies the requirement. Get the answer before arranging documents or making an inflexible reservation.
Your companion can change the answer
Sotetsu Myeong-dong’s English consent document, page 2 separates the following situations. This table is specific to that property.
| Party staying without a guardian | What its document says |
|---|---|
| Solo guest aged 16–18 | Permitted with consent and guardian-ID copy |
| Same-sex friends aged 16–18 | Permitted with those documents |
| Mixed-sex friends aged 16–18 | Not permitted under the listed co-ed category, even with consent |
| Siblings aged 16–18 | A separate permitted category, requiring relationship proof as well |
| A guest aged 15 or younger | Cannot stay without a guardian, even with consent |
An 18-year-old companion should therefore not be assumed to solve the guardian requirement for a younger friend. If one sibling is an adult, one guest has a birthday during the trip, or your arrangement does not match a category clearly, describe it to the hotel. Ask about each room separately when your group plans to split up.
Get a usable answer from the exact hotel
Send a short eligibility question through the hotel’s official contact channel. Your first inquiry can describe the party without attaching identity documents. Include:
- The exact property and proposed check-in and check-out dates.
- Each guest’s age on arrival, including any birthday during the stay.
- Whether guests are friends or siblings, who would share each room, and whether a parent or guardian accompanies them.
- The room category and the documents you can provide.

Include the sexes of the guests where needed to answer a listed room-sharing rule. If a reply only says “consent required,” follow up on the remaining checklist rather than treating that as confirmation of every detail.
Keep the answer connected to the reservation
- Resolve eligibility first. A room being available online does not answer whether this particular party meets the hotel’s conditions. Obtain a reply naming the property, party and stay dates.
- Check the cancellation deadline. Read the terms of the seller you will actually use. If a document question remains open, avoid committing to a rate you cannot change or cancel.
- Prepare the agreed documents. Save the current hotel form and the written reply. Keep required originals accessible during travel, separate from luggage you will not have at reception.
- Plan guardian availability. Where a phone confirmation is required, account for the time difference and check the contact number with the hotel before arrival.
- Confirm room capacity too. Permission for the guests to stay and permission for that number of people in one room are separate checks. Use the Korea family-room occupancy guide to compare bed setup and maximum guests.
Once the property has confirmed your arrangement, compare Myeongdong, Hongdae and Gangnam hotel locations around your itinerary. For the packing list, check which hotel toiletries you should bring yourself.
