Do not buy perfume assuming you can mail it home by Korea Post EMS. Korea Post lists perfume as prohibited, while lotions, creams and mists need product checks. A beauty-shopping parcel needs an item-by-item plan before a shipping-price comparison. Check Korea Post’s official restrictions.

Official guidance checked October 25, 2026. This guide concerns mailing purchases overseas from Korea using ordinary EMS. Confirm other postal or courier services separately, and check the destination country’s conditions.

Sort the products before buying a box

What is in your shopping bag? What to do before planning EMS
PerfumeLeave it out of the EMS parcel. The list marks it prohibited.
Lotions, creams or mistsShow the exact product and container for checking. Compressed spray containers and products marked as flammable dangerous goods are prohibited.
Cleansing oilThe list permits products without a dangerous-goods label; still check destination conditions.
Liquids decanted into unmarked containers or cosmetic samplesAsk about documentation before packing. Korea Post requires an MSDS for unidentified liquids and powders in this category.

These are selected categories from the official item list, not approval of a particular brand. MSDS means Material Safety Data Sheet; a purchase receipt does not provide the same information.

Keep the product packaging and ingredients available while checking. Photograph the container, product name and warning symbols so you can identify the exact item if you ask the retailer for documentation.

A small perfume bottle is still perfume

The Korean-language EMS guidance explains the perfume restriction by its ethyl alcohol content. It does not give a small-bottle allowance. Do not apply an airport cabin-liquid limit to a postal parcel.

If you want to take it on your flight instead, check the operating airline’s toiletry and baggage conditions and every connection. Our domestic versus international liquid guide explains why permission on one flight does not settle the next leg.

Check the destination before comparing prices

Use Korea Post’s country-by-country EMS conditions and select the destination. Review current acceptance notices, prohibited or restricted items, size and weight limits, and customs requirements. EMS Premium has a separate tab; a result for one service is not a quote for the other.

Before visiting the counter, prepare:

  • An item list: product names, quantities, container sizes and purchase values, with receipts available.
  • The delivery details: destination country, recipient address and a way to reach the recipient.
  • Your departure date: enough time to resolve a refused item or missing document before you leave Korea.
  • A second plan: which products you can take with you after checking airline rules, and which purchases you should reconsider.

Describe the contents accurately. Do not hide perfume under a generic description such as “souvenirs,” or assume that calling a purchase a gift removes import requirements.

A 2kg parcel can use 4kg for the price calculation

Korea Post’s English price calculator compares actual weight with volumetric weight and uses the larger value. Its formula is:

Volumetric weight in kg = length × width × height in cm ÷ 6,000.

Hypothetical packing example: a parcel measuring 40 × 30 × 20cm has a volumetric weight of 4kg. If the packed parcel weighs 2kg, the calculation uses 4kg. That does not mean the price is exactly twice a 2kg quote, or that these dimensions are accepted for every destination.

Use the final packed dimensions and weight in the calculator. It provides an estimate; the exact charge is determined when the parcel is accepted. Avoid choosing an unnecessarily large box while still allowing adequate protection.

Compare complete plans

PlanPut these costs and checks together
Mail the accepted itemsThe current quote for your destination and packed parcel, packaging, any applicable destination charges, and time to visit the post office. Keep excluded products out.
Carry the accepted itemsYour airline’s actual baggage quote for each relevant flight, a bag if needed, and confirmation that the contents meet the applicable rules.
Buy less or use the retailer’s delivery optionConfirm the exact products, destination, delivery charge and conditions before paying. Do not assume a retailer’s export service is available for a personal parcel.

A useful comparison starts with the same products reaching the same destination. A cheap postal quote that cannot include the perfume does not solve your whole shopping problem.

If you are collecting an airport order, check when Incheon online duty-free purchases are handed over before building a post-office errand into your itinerary. For the shopping budget itself, use the final-basket comparison checklist.

A question to show at the post office

I want to send this product by EMS to [country]. Can you check the ingredients and container before I pack it?

이 제품을 [나라]로 EMS로 보내려고 합니다. 포장하기 전에 성분과 용기를 확인해 주실 수 있나요?

Show the actual product with the question. Confirm acceptance first, then choose the parcel size and compare the complete cost with your flight option.
