If the departure field on your issued KORAIL ticket says “Seoul,” go to Seoul Station (서울역). If it says “Yongsan,” go to Yongsan Station (용산역). Seoul is a specific station choice in KORAIL’s booking system, as well as the city’s name. It does not mean you can board at any station within Seoul.
Start with the actual ticket’s departure field, especially if a seller’s email only has a broad heading such as “Seoul to Jeonju.” Then match that station to your map destination. The official station listings and KORAIL booking interface below were checked on October 24, 2026.
Seoul Station and Yongsan Station: match these details
KORAIL’s English booking page lists Seoul and Yongsan separately in its departure-station selector. The railway information center’s entries provide these station names and street addresses:
| Departure on your ticket | Station to search | Street-address check |
|---|---|---|
| Seoul | Seoul Station / 서울역 | 405 Hangang-daero / 한강대로 405 |
| Yongsan | Yongsan Station / 용산역 | 55 Hangang-daero 23-gil / 한강대로23길 55 |
| Another named station | Search that exact station | Confirm its own address; do not substitute Seoul Station |
Sources: Seoul Station directory entry and Yongsan Station directory entry.
The address trap: Seoul Station’s listed address includes Yongsan-gu, the district. That does not make it Yongsan Station. Read the station name and street address together instead of stopping at the district name.
These addresses identify the station complexes. Inside, follow signs for the mainline train departures and check your platform; reaching a nearby subway entrance is only part of the journey.
Check the ticket before the map
Use this short sequence before leaving your accommodation:
- Open the issued ticket. Find the travel date, departure station, departure time and train number. A payment receipt or broad tour-product title may not contain all four.
- Read the departure station exactly. Keep the outward and return tickets separate. On the return journey, Seoul may be the arrival station.
- Match the map result. Search 서울역 or 용산역 as appropriate, then compare the name and address with the table above. Our Naver Map search guide explains how to check a place result when an English search is ambiguous.
- Plan to reach the mainline concourse. Add time for walking from the bus stop or subway platform, finding an elevator with luggage and reading the departure board.
- At the station, match the train number and time. Check the displayed platform and your carriage and seat. A destination name alone is too broad to identify your booked service.
Planning example: suppose your ticket shows Yongsan at 08:00, but your saved hotel route ends at Seoul Station. Correct the map destination before setting your departure time. Do not keep the old route just because both stations are in the same city. This is an example, not a quoted train schedule or a guaranteed transfer time.
Your destination does not settle your departure station
A travel article may describe a common route from Yongsan or Seoul Station. Your booked service still needs its own check.
Korea Tourism Organization’s train overview identifies multiple Seoul-area KTX departure stations, including Seoul, Yongsan and Cheongnyangni. Use that as a reminder to check the ticket, rather than as a rule that every train to a particular city starts at one station.
If you are still choosing a ticket, compare the available departures and the trip from your hotel to each station. A departure that looks convenient in the train-results list may require an earlier start from your accommodation. For booking availability, use our separate KTX booking-window guide.
The confirmation email only says “Seoul”
First check whether you are looking at the full ticket or an order summary.
For a booking made on KORAIL’s English website, its ticketing guide says you can retrieve the reservation using the email address and password entered when purchasing. Use the official site’s MY TICKET menu. If you bought through another seller, open that seller’s issued ticket or ask its support to confirm the exact departure station and train number.
A useful message is:
Please confirm the departure station for my issued ticket: Seoul Station or Yongsan Station? My travel date is [date] and train number is [number].
Send booking details privately to the operator or seller. You do not need to post a ticket, QR code or reservation number in a public travel forum to resolve this.
Already at the wrong station?
Show your ticket to railway staff and ask them to check the booked train, time and boarding point. Do not assume you can use the ticket on a different departure, or that the same train will stop at the station where you are standing.
If there is enough time to reach the correct station, check the full route and walking time before setting off. If departure is close or has passed, ask about the ticket’s change or refund options immediately.
KORAIL’s English ticketing guide directs passengers with an already-departed train to a train-station counter for a refund request and says requests cannot be made after the ticketed arrival time. Fees depend on the circumstances. Our missed-KTX refund guide explains the timing and ticket-channel distinctions; a replacement seat is a separate availability check.
Save three things together: the issued ticket, the correct station pin and the route from your hotel. Recheck those three after any ticket change.
