Want a refund for skincare or makeup bought at an Olive Young store in Korea? Return to the branch where you paid. The official Myeongdong store FAQ gives 15 days from payment for eligible, unopened, resaleable goods and asks for the receipt and original payment method. Another nearby branch is not the standard refund route.

This guide covers purchases paid for in a physical Korean store. The official pages below were checked on October 25, 2026. For online orders, start with the separate section below.

Decide whether you want money back or a replacement

Your aimWhere to start
Get the purchase refundedThe original branch named on your receipt.
Swap an eligible item while staying elsewhereAsk a nearby regular branch about an equal-value exchange.
Deal with a faulty productExplain the defect to the seller; do not describe it merely as a change of mind.
Fix an online orderUse that order’s customer-service channel.

Olive Young’s Korean store FAQ specifically permits an equal-value exchange at another nearby branch, excluding outlets, within the stated window and with the receipt and payment method. The Myeongdong FAQ also mentions exchanges for a higher-value purchase. Confirm any difference to pay and available stock before traveling; do not assume a cheaper replacement will produce a cash refund at a different branch.

Keep the box closed until you decide

An unused bottle inside an opened box may still be a problem. The Korean FAQ says opening, damaging or losing the case can prevent resale and make exchange or refund difficult. Keep the outer packaging intact while deciding whether you bought the right product.

Before unwrapping, compare the shade, size and exact product name on the box with your shopping list. If buying for someone else, send them a photograph of the sealed package first. This is especially useful for sets whose bonus item makes the carton look similar to a different offer. Our Olive Young set worksheet helps compare those contents before purchase.

Check purchases before changing cities

Hypothetical itinerary: you shop in Myeongdong on Monday, take a train to Busan on Wednesday and fly home on Saturday. Review the purchases on Monday evening. Waiting until Friday may leave you within the stated policy window but far from the refund branch.

Use this small travel checklist:

  • Save the exact branch: keep its Korean name and address with the receipt. A neighborhood can have several stores.
  • Check the route: fit a visit into your remaining time in that area, with room for staff to inspect the items.
  • Keep the purchase together: avoid separating a set or packing its extras into someone else’s suitcase before resolving the issue.
  • Ask before making a long detour: describe the product, condition, purchase date and desired outcome. An exchange is only useful if you actually want the replacement.

You can show this question to staff:

이 상품을 환불하려면 구매한 매장으로 가야 하나요?
Do I need to go to the original store to refund this item?

For a possible exchange:

같은 금액의 다른 상품으로 교환할 수 있나요?
Can I exchange it for another item of the same value?

Lost the receipt, or already received a tax refund?

For a lost receipt, the store FAQ directs you to the original branch, which can check the payment card or CJ ONE points record within 15 days. A transaction still needs to be identifiable; a missing receipt does not guarantee approval or automatic rejection.

If your purchase involved a tourist tax refund, keep that paperwork together with the sales receipt. Tell staff whether the refund was immediate or claimed separately, and ask how the return will adjust it. The store-policy pages cited here do not establish every tax-refund reversal scenario, so do not promise yourself a particular net amount. Our Korea tourist tax-refund guide explains the separate tourist tax-refund process.

Bought from Olive Young Global instead?

Use the Global online return policy. It provides a request route for defective or incorrectly supplied goods within 30 days of delivery, asks for order details and photographs, and excludes change-of-mind or wrongly selected items. It also says Global does not offer exchanges. These are separate terms from an ordinary Korean shop purchase.

For Korean online delivery or pickup orders, check the order’s own return instructions before carrying it to a store. For an in-person purchase, the most useful next step is to identify the original branch while you still have time to reach it.
