You cannot reserve Seoraksan cable-car tickets ahead: the operator sells them on site, and the standard adult round trip costs ₩16,000. If you are visiting on a day tour, compare the departure offered at the counter with your group’s return meeting time before paying. A three-hour park stop can leave surprisingly little time at the top.
Official information checked October 22, 2026. This guide covers the Seorak Cable Car from Sogongwon to Gwongeumseong, in Sokcho. The time budget below is an illustrative planning example.
What you can arrange before the trip
The operator’s visitor guide confirms the on-site-only policy. Select English in its language menu. Operating hours vary with conditions and weather; use the dated hours on that page for your visit.
You can still choose your transport, compare tour inclusions and decide how much flexibility you need. Before booking a package, ask:
| Question for the tour provider | Decision it helps you make |
|---|---|
| Is the cable-car fare included in my selected option? | Work out whether to add a separate ticket budget. |
| What time do we actually arrive at the park and meet again? | Calculate usable park time, excluding the journey from Seoul. |
| How are tickets handled, and what happens if the offered time is too late or service stops? | Understand the provider’s arrangements before committing. |
| Where is the return meeting point? | Allow time to walk back from the lower station. |
Save the answer with your booking. Check the inclusions, exclusions and optional extras for your exact departure, including any second attraction on the itinerary.
For two people paying the standard adult fare, 2 × ₩16,000 = ₩32,000 for cable-car tickets alone. The official fare table defines adults as middle-school age and older. If your package already includes the fare, ask how to collect the tickets before buying them separately.
Does the offered departure fit your park stop?
The operator describes a ride of about five minutes each way. That ride time is only one part of your schedule.
Illustrative example: your group enters the park at 11:00 and meets again at 14:00. Compare two possible upward departures below. These are invented planning inputs, not an observed tour schedule or a forecast of the queue.
| Time budget | Depart 12:00 | Depart 12:40 |
|---|---|---|
| From upward departure to 14:00 meeting | 120 min | 80 min |
| Two rides, about 5 minutes each | −10 min | −10 min |
| Assumed return boarding queue | −20 min | −20 min |
| Assumed walk to meeting point | −15 min | −15 min |
| Buffer before meeting | −15 min | −15 min |
| Time left at the top | 60 min | 20 min |
Your calculation: minutes until the meeting, starting at your upward departure, minus both rides, the return queue, the walk back and a buffer.
Replace the three assumptions with information for your day, your walking pace and your group’s meeting point. If the return queue grows from 20 to 40 minutes, the later option’s 20 minutes at the top disappears. Also check the last downward service: it may impose an earlier limit than your group’s departure.
This is why the departure time offered matters more than the headline “three hours at Seoraksan.” Decide how much viewing time would make the extra cost worthwhile for you. If the result is too tight, discuss a ground-level plan with your guide before buying.
At the cable-car station
The boarding guide and FAQ give this sequence:
- Buy at the first-floor ticket office.
- Be at the second-floor boarding area five minutes before your assigned time.
- Join the return boarding queue at Gwongeumseong and come down before the last service.
Tickets are round-trip only. There is no hiking trail down from the cable-car destination; include the return ride in your plan.
Keep a useful alternative
Strong wind, weather or inspections can interrupt service, according to the operator’s service information. Check operation before setting out and again when you arrive.
For an independent trip, the operator’s local sightseeing guide suggests the Sogongwon area, Cheongchoho Lake and Sokcho’s tourist and fishery market. Check current access and transport for whichever you choose. On a group tour, agree an alternative and the meeting arrangements with your guide before leaving the group.
