Buying an AREX Express ticket does not automatically qualify you to check bags at Seoul Station. The City Airport Terminal can take eligible passengers’ checked luggage before they reach Incheon, but your flight, check-in deadline and train ticket all have to fit. Check those three things before paying for a last-day plan built around early bag drop.
Official operator, airport and airline guidance checked October 22, 2026. This guide concerns the City Airport Terminal at Seoul Station, not an airport luggage-storage counter. The recommendations and worked examples below are our planning judgments.
1. Check the operating airline, not just the booking logo
Start with the “operated by” line on your flight reservation. Korean Air’s city-terminal rules accept eligible codeshares flown by Korean Air, including those sold under another airline’s number. A Korean Air flight number on an aircraft operated by another airline does not qualify under that rule.
The current AREX airline list shows:
| Incheon departure terminal | Airlines listed for Seoul Station check-in |
|---|---|
| T1 | Jeju Air, T’way Air, Eastar Jet |
| T2 | Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Jin Air, Air Busan, Air Seoul |
Participation is not approval for every route. AREX lists Americas-route exclusions, including Guam/Saipan, for Jeju Air, T’way, Jin Air and Air Seoul. Confirm your exact flight and operating carrier with the airline, especially for a codeshare or charter. An airline absent from this list needs confirmation before you make the detour.
There are passenger and baggage restrictions too. Asiana’s official guide excludes passengers requiring certain assistance, unaccompanied minors, pets and some special baggage; it also says excess-baggage payments and paid seat purchases are unavailable at the city counter. Korean Air separately lists assistance, pet and special-baggage restrictions. Arrange the appropriate airport service with your airline if these apply.
A useful question to ask: “Can this operating flight accept me and this baggage at Seoul Station on my departure date?” That is more precise than asking whether the airline has a counter there.
2. Work backward from the flight, not the train
Incheon Airport’s official guide gives these Seoul Station limits for eligible same-day international departures:
| Service | Published hours or cutoff |
|---|---|
| Airline check-in and bag drop | 05:20–19:00 |
| T1 flight check-in | Complete at least 3 hours before flight departure |
| T2 flight check-in | Complete at least 3 hours 20 minutes before flight departure |
| Departure immigration | 05:30–19:00 |
AREX additionally specifies 18:50 as the end of check-in acceptance. A late flight does not keep the city counter open. These times are Korea time. Reconfirm the airline’s own cutoff; Asiana’s current page, for example, specifies three hours 20 minutes.
Three deadline calculations
These are hypothetical flight times, not an airline schedule or recommended arrival times:
| Your flight | Calculation | What it means for your plan |
|---|---|---|
| T1 at 18:30 | 18:30 − 3:00 = 15:30 | Finish city check-in before the cutoff; arrive earlier for the queue and processing |
| T2 at 18:30 | 18:30 − 3:20 = 15:10 | Copying the T1 deadline would leave you 20 minutes late |
| T2 at 08:00 | 08:00 − 3:20 = 04:40 | The cutoff is before the 05:20 opening; plan airport check-in instead |
Keep two separate appointments in your plan: finish airline check-in, then catch the booked train. A train that reaches the airport comfortably before departure cannot repair a missed city-counter deadline. Do not aim to join the queue at the calculated cutoff.
3. Get an Express ticket for the correct journey
Seoul Station’s facility is for AREX Express customers. An All-Stop ride paid with T-money does not meet that condition. AREX says entry uses the Express ticket’s QR code. Compare the two rail services in our Express versus All-Stop guide if you are still choosing your airport transport.
The official AREX procedure offers online ticketing or the machines on Seoul Station B2. It recommends a train leaving at least 30 minutes after purchase when completing the city-terminal process. That recommendation is not a guaranteed processing time: leave room for queues and any airline checks.
For a reseller voucher, complete its activation or redemption instructions and check the resulting Seoul Station → correct Incheon terminal, travel date, departure and seat. Klook currently advertises in-app activation with date and seat selection. A purchase confirmation is not a reason to assume the train reservation is finished. Check cancellation terms before paying.
Only compare tickets after the airline and timing checks above. You can buy through AREX directly or compare the optional Klook listing below. A train seller cannot grant airline check-in eligibility.

Can you drop bags in the morning for an evening flight?
AREX advertises early check-in on the departure day for eligible flights. If your aim is more time in Seoul before a later train, confirm your flight’s acceptance and the exit/re-entry instructions with staff before leaving the counter area. Wait until the baggage security check is complete: AREX explicitly asks passengers to remain until that confirmation.
Pack for the rest of the day before handing over the suitcase. Keep your passport, boarding pass, medication and other essentials with you. Checked baggage goes to the destination airport under the airline’s process; this is not a locker that you reopen after lunch. If you need access to the suitcase again, use Seoul luggage storage instead.
For your return to the station, choose a sightseeing endpoint with a simple route back and set an alarm based on your booked train. Do not squeeze in a distant attraction merely because the bag has already been checked.
What happens after bag drop?
At Seoul Station, airline check-in and departure immigration are on B2; Express boarding is on B7. At Incheon, eligible travelers who completed both procedures can use the designated departure passage on the third floor, according to the airport guide. Security screening still applies, as Korean Air’s instructions make clear. Allow time to reach the terminal and your gate.
If your airline, baggage or timing does not qualify, you can still use the Express as ordinary transport and check in at the airport. Choose it for the journey and seat, with your luggage remaining with you. For a different route, compare the airport-bus payment guide and your hotel’s storage policy before buying anything.
